Kelley Jeanne Rocks Country with Single “Who Says”

Fiercely adding rock and roll to her country songs, Nashville based singer/songwriter Kelley Jeanne has released her new redneck rock single “Who Says (Country If I Wanna Be),” available everywhere now. Jeanne made the move to Nashville from Pittsburgh in 2019 with her band mate after being invited to join CMT’s Artist Mentorship Program. She has since opened for acts like Chapel Hart and Robyn Ottolini. Being from Pittsburgh, Jeanne shared that she had come across people that claimed she could not be a country artist because she is not from the south.
When asked her thoughts on this she shared, “It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, if you want to do something or be something, JUST GO FOR IT! What’s the worst that can happen?”
“Who Says (Country If I Wanna Be)” starts with a gritty guitar riff and Jeanne’s distinct raspy vocals. The track exudes confidence and sass. The bass and drums back Jeanne’s conversational melody that shares imagery and points about how she is right where she is supposed to be. The anthemic track is fun and full of attitude.
There are so many stand out lyrics on the single, she playfully sings, “I don’t know much about a John Deere, but I can shotgun the hell out of a cold beer.” Jeanne challenges the stereotypes of the south while also acknowledging the roots of the south. “Who says you gotta be raised in the holler / to have a little blue around the collar?” she asked in the chorus of the track.
Overall, there are so many artists and country fans that could relate to this song. Country music is not only a nationwide genre, but a worldwide sound. Music Marble has highlighted a multitude of country artists from Europe who have connected the storytelling and sounds of country music. So, it is refreshing to see Pittsburgh-born artist Kelley Jeanne continue to push against the stereotype that only people born in the south can make and relate to country music.
