Buck Johnson Reimagines Classic Hit “Just Feel Better”

The secret weapon behind many of your favorite songs and bands, multi-instrumentalist Buck Johnson, has released his single “Just Feel Better.” The significance of this track is that Johnson co-wrote the song and it was originally released by Santana and Steve Tyler in 2005, amassing over 26 million streams on Spotify alone. Along with this success, Buck Johnson is most known for the work he has done with Aerosmith, Johnny Depp, and Alice Cooper.

“Just Feel Better” by Buck Johnson, brings his own unique voice and style to the track. He is known for his signature Cala-bama sound: drawing influence from his Alabama roots and years spent in California. It is almost impossible to compare the two tracks, especially since Johnson had a hand in both. However, Johnson brings a brightness in his voice and the instrumentals. The violins soar in the back, giving this glimpse of hope in this song about hopelessness.
The single was released alongside a thematic music video. Johnson finds a message in a bottle from a woman in distress. He takes the message and transforms it into the song we are hearing right before our eyes. It has a fantasy element to it that suspends the listener into this world that Johnson created. The storyline mirrors the song beautifully and really keeps the viewer engaged while highlighting the epic-ness of the track.
Lyrically, again capturing that storytelling, it complements the songs of the time like “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5 and “Push” by Matchbox Twenty. This element of pain and anger that a woman feels from the perspective of a male narrator. It shows this song stands the test of time that it still feels this relevant almost twenty years later.
Overall, Buck Johnson has been an important puzzle piece in musical powerhouses like Aerosmith, so it is always amazing to hear the songwriter’s take on the song they wrote. So, if you are a fan of this classic track, check it out in a different style!
