Alex Allegra Checks Off Fun Single With “Boyfriend Bucket List”

Looking for a bop that embraces just going where love takes you? Nashville based pop artist Alex Allegra has exactly what you’re looking for with her single “Boyfriend Bucket List.” Allegra grew up surrounded by music and in 2017 she moved to Music City and would later play iconic songwriter venues like The Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room.
“Boyfriend Bucket List” is just what you think it is about. Allegra flips the normal stereotype of guys dating around and sings about how she is just dating who she thinks is fun. It is not about commitment, it is about living life. She perfectly describes a singer she sees in a bar as, “he’s a cliche country boy snapback flannel with a fake accent singing ‘Back In The Saddle.’” The concept overall is thoroughly fun and validating for people who experience these types of men when dating.

Overall the song has an early 2000s, relaxed sound. It is a good mix of pop and some rock influence. Allegra’s vocals blend nicely with the male harmonies supporting her. The guitar riffs in the chorus are dirty and cool; it has a “must hear live” feeling to it.
The positive energy of this song is electric and it is impressive that Allegra, and co writer Nikki Claire, can take a concept like this and make it really connect to listeners. It is able to be light hearted with substance: a combination that can be a tough line to walk, but they walk it with ease.
“You think I’m in love and you think you’re the sh–, but I’m crossing you off my boyfriend bucket list,” Allegra sings, the hook is super memorable and sassy.
Overall, Allegra has a professional sound and real things to say. It is nice to see her versatility as a writer, having uptempo songs like this one and ballads like “Color (Bloom.)” If you have not checked her out yet, now is the time!
