Release Roundup: Beyoncé Goes Country And More!

Beyoncé released a country single, Lizzy McAlpine announced a new album, and Brandi Carlile featured on a Noah Kahan song! These are just some of the highlights from the music released over this past week:

“You’re Gonna Go Far” – Noah Kahan (With Brandi Carlile)

“You’re Gonna Go Far,” originally a solo song by Kahan, was released featuring Brandi Carlile as a part of his Forever album. Forever  is an extended release of Kahan’s third studio album Stick Season. When talking about the bittersweetness of releasing this final installment, Kahan shared on his instagram, “I hope you enjoy these songs. I hope they continue to find you in the times you most need them.”

The song itself has a folksy singer-songwriter sound and still has a beautiful quietness to it, Carlile and Kahan’s voices blend so well together, weaving this sweetness of wishing somebody the best. Lyrically, the track tells a story of one person staying in their hometown and being happy the other person made it out. It is healing, and echoes the goods and bads of “forever.”

“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” – Beyoncé

During the Super Bowl, Beyoncé featured in a Verizon commercial where she teased the possibility of releasing new music. After this she released two country influenced tracks “16 Carriages” and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.”

“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” is a fun country pop song with an infectious melody and some country storytelling. Overall, it is more in line with “bro country,” not taking itself too seriously. The driving guitars and drums just allow a feel good vibe throughout. She sings “One step to the right, we headed to the dive bar we always thought was nice.” This song does exactly what it sets out to do: be a fun pop country vibe that downtown Nashville will soon hear across the party buses.

“Older” – Lizzy McAlpine

“Older” is the lead single for the album of the same name, Older, to be released April 5th. When talking about working on this project she shared, “I have learned who I am as a person, who I want to be as an artist and what kind of art I want to make.”

McAlpine continues a sound fans may be familiar with, a more somber piano ballad. Her writing is introspective, singing about contemplating the end of things and having regrets about how she treated past loves. The imagery is vibrant with a “carousel ride” and a “red moon climb.” The 24 year old songstress shares a relatability about the fear of growing old that all 20 somethings face: but she finds her own way of saying it.

These are just a few of the tracks that came out this week, were they any of your favorites? What new releases did I miss?
