Deej Makes A Splash With Single “Waterfall”

Inspired by nature and the music that came before her, Ohio-based Artist Deej has released her debut album Blue Sky Mama on March 15, 2024, alongside single “Waterfall.” A 23-year-old singer/songwriter, Deej has had a love for writing and performing for as long as she can remember. She finds inspiration for her songs across the various decades of music. In 2020, the artist got her certification in Sound Healing and now hosts “sound baths” throughout the year. Deej continues to connect with others through all elements of her music.

“Waterfall” has a free flowing, upbeat sound to it. Immediately, you can hear the güiro, which is a unique percussion instrument featured on the track that mimics the frog sounds and nature that heavily inspired the song. There is an overall groovy sound throughout with playful electric guitars and lyrics. Deej shared her lyrical inspiration comes a lot from poetry and the ability to explore a more abstract world compared to blunt, conversational lyrics. It allows a freer, imagery filled song with lots of personification and exploration.

“Come on take a dip in my time / I wash away your worries with a sweet goodbye,” are such unique lyrics that have so many interpretations to it. The lyricism is super strong and pairs nicely with the care-free instrumentation that backs it up. The track has a 70s feel to it, with Deej continuing that aesthetic on both the album art and single art.

Overall, it is impressive that Deej is already so comfortable in her sound, and it will be exciting to see where she goes next with her artistry. This debut album is a great introduction to Deej’s style and lyricism. So, if you have not check out the album or “Waterfall” be sure to go give them a listen!
