Lewis Capaldi Brings The House Down At Sold Out Nashville Show
There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a show at the famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. It’s even better feeding off the energy of a sold out crowd. The line snaked all around the Grand Ole Opry parking lot hours before Lewis Capaldi was set to hit the stage.
The show was the first night of the US leg of Calpadi’s “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent” tour with support from TikTok singer-songwriter Em Beihold.

About Lewis Capaldi
Capaldi is a Grammy nominated pop singer-songwriter, with his biggest hit “Somebody To Love” being nominated for Song Of The Year – one of only four categories that covers all genres. The Scottish singer has one album out Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent with his sophomore Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent set to be released May 19, 2023.
The Show Begins
The show kicked off with the lead single “Forget Me” from his upcoming sophomore album. The band each had their own platform and they were all wearing white. The opening video included a lot of water and staircase imagery. It was a great way to set up the world and build excitement for the show and get the crowd off their feet. The lights were extravagant and fun throughout the entire performance.
Sense of Humor
Capaldi is well-known for his sense of humor, and that shined through the love-sick ballads. I was both wowed by his singing and in stitches with his jokes.
After the end of his first song Capaldi remarked how iconic of a venue the Grand Ole Opry is, but in his own special way.
“This is the thing the Grand Ole Opry is a special place… I’m wondering if I’m sh-tting where Johnny Cash sh-t: talk about a ring of fire!”
The crowd erupted in laughter, Calpadi had us in the palm of his hand. He goes on to say, “I need you to step it the f— back Nashville we are on song two!”
“Playing” Piano
During Calpadi’s hit song “Before You Go” and his first single “Bruises,” he is sat a small piano with a single spotlight shining down from the side of the stage. He shares a sentimenal moment that “Bruises” was released almost 6 years ago to the day, and he couldn’t imagine being where he was today. To sprinkle in his signature jokes, he tells the crowd that he has not been playing the piano the entire time – just pretending.
I definitely believed he was and it was even funnier when he told us to play along as he planned to do the next song “on piano” as well.
Encore
Capaldi make sure we knew there would be an encore, all we had to was cheer while he pretended to leave. The encore songs included “How I’m Feeling Now” which is also the title of his Netflix Documentary being released April 5th.
It was certainly a special moment as it was just him singing with his guitar using the iconic WRM Opry microphone.
His last song was “Somebody You Loved,” it was a special moment in the room to sing along to that song. Capaldi had the crowd sing the chorus back to him about three times before he exited the stage.
Final Thoughts
Overall Capaldi has a knack for writing unique yet memorable lyrics. As someone who only knew a few of his songs, there were some I heard that night and could sing along with the next chorus. Some people may not think this is positive, but if it makes it easier for new fans to sing along, it makes it easier to make new fans.
I went into this concert not knowing too much about him, and left with a Hatch Print Poster and a tour shirt.
